Hello there! Take a moment to get to know me.
My name is Jessica von Medicus, but I go by Sica (See-ka.)
I am a CG Supervisor currently leading an incredible team of talented artists at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Los Angeles, CA.
Creating has been my passion since I was a young kid. Ever since I can remember I was drawing, crafting, and observing the world through a creative lens.
Though leading creatives is my current passion, it wasn’t where I started my career.
Over the past 15 years I’ve had the pleasure to work on many projects in the VFX and Animation industry. I started out as a Lighting Artist at Nickelodeon on the TV Series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I spent 6 years on the show, moving up to Lead Artist for the final season and leading a team of talented individuals to create the most beautiful season of them all. In 2017, I worked on a variety of projects as a Generalist. I was able to provide CG for titles such as Hey Arnold! The Movie, Paw Patrol, Shimmer and Shine, Spongebob Squarepants, and more. I also made my TV debut in an episode of Spongebob, where I cut into the fish who yells ‘My leg!’
In 2018, I left Nickelodeon and eventually found may way to Titmouse Inc. There I worked as Lighting Lead on a super fun commercial for Game of Thrones themed Whiskey. Shortly after Titmouse, FuseFx offered me the opportunity to work on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6. Those four months taught me that you can do anything if you keep trying and are willing to learn from others. I came to Fuse, a 3DS Max house at the time, with a week of 3DS Max under my belt and I left with some incredible work and even better friends. After Fuse, I joined CoSA VFX where I was able to contribute lighting to Swamp Thing, Pennyworth, and more. After CoSA, We Are Royale scooped me up to work on the opening sequence for Dancing With The Stars Season 10.
In September 2019, FuseFx brought me back and soon after offered the opportunity to become a full time CG Generalist. Early 2020, I was given a chance to supervise a Netflix show called Hollywood and thus began the path to become a CG Supervisor. From Fall 2019 to Fall 2021, I had the chance to work on shows such as Loki, Orville, The Morning Show, American Crime Story, and more. I was able to develop the warp trails for the Orville Ship, dance around in an XSense suit for our crowd team, and even lead the talented artists that built Times Square for Season 2 of The Morning Show.
I enjoyed my time at Fuse greatly, but in fall of 2021, I was offered a position back at Nickelodeon as CG Supervisor on a brand new show called Max and the Midknights. Currently, I’m working with a rockstar team, using the industry’s latest innovations to create one of the most fun shows I’ve ever worked on. We’ve developed 20 episodes, 440 minutes of content all using Unreal Engine 5.1. Our award wining show has been one of the greatest challenges and brightest highlights to my career.
Becoming a CG Supervisor has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life. Leading artists to do their best work, solving technical and creative problems, working with creative leadership to make stunning and next level content, and so much more.
Capturing Light and Love
Not only do my skills for light and composition apply to the CG world, I’ve had a long career in Portrait photography as well.
Capturing memories through a lens has taught me so much about how to create imagery that keeps people wanting more. Simple principles of light and composition create a foundation for stunning images every time. Photography allows me a creative outlet and a source to keep expanding my artistic knowledge.
